Bee" and
more!
Six young people in the throes of puberty,
overseen by
grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that
winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a
loser. SPELLING BEE has been hailed by the Wall Street Journal as
"perfect in every possible way-that rarity of rarities, a super-smart
musical that is also a bona fide crowd pleaser." This tuneful, offbeat
and at times heartwarming show offers audience members the opportunity
(strictly voluntary!) to become part of the action as on-stage
spellers. The New York Times calls SPELLING BEE, "irresistible,
riotously funny and remarkably ingenious-gold stars all around." We
will visit the Des Moines Botanical Center which has been newly
renovated and enjoy a delicious 3-course dinner. The gift shop has also
been renovated, all purchases are tax free! On to the show! A tour of
the city with a step on guide will show us the new and the old of our
Capitol City. We will be stopping at Classic Hats for Men, learning
about the history of men's hats, and Gateway Market. Lunch will be at
Joie De Vie Tea Salon, located in a beautiful Victorian mansion.
Following lunch, we will be treated to a program by the Hat Lady of
Iowa and visit Chocolaterie Stam. Sample the delicious chocolate while
you learn about the Stam family from Holland and the long history of
chocolates from the experts.
